"Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May" is a poem by Robert Herrick. This poem portrays our existence on earth, and that people age as life goes on, and everything becomes boundless. Herrick here urges people to take advantage of youth and energy while they may! The poem is in the genre of carpe diem, to seize the day.

Before Year Ends

OK! This is gonna sound weird! but.... what the hey!!! LOL
I did my first surgery in 2007!!!! to be exact... at 10:40ish am this morning... and then went to work! I have four stitches on my neck, on the side to be exact. NOTHING major though! I went to the doctor not knowing the exact procedure. I was laying down on my tummy and my head to the right, then they covered my head with a green garment that has a hole in it! I went EEEEK!! What is going on??? He was operating on the left side of my lower neck.. I heard him asking the nurse for scissors and blades and my eyes popped! WHATS GOING ON! Is it a good thing that sometimes doctors wont explain the procedure or what? I don't care.. he is an awesome doctor anyway...

Anyways... I ended up with four stitches :-) YES! I don't know why I am smiling. I kept remembering how happy Bart Simpson was when he had stitches and never knew why! I still don't know why! LOL! ITS INSANE I KNOW!!!

Happy New Year to my loyal readers :-)

Update:
My surgery wasnt major! They removed a black mole I had and loved!!! I went in, the area got cleansed, then it was numbed with anesthetic, afterwards he placed a green drape over my neck/face.... The mole was removed by excision and stitches. I was done after 20-25 minutes and four stitches ;-)

Improve Quality of Life

Whats your new year's resolution?

Mine? I will try to give in more to Karma to take its course and learn to rise above even more than I usually do!

Buddhism rocks... I like it as a philosophy and way of living! The teachings of it and understanding what it is about will definitely help improving the quality of life which will eventually lead us to live in harmony! Am I making sense?

I need some more me time... yeah I do spend me time now, but will definitely need more of that. I need to focus on myself... I need to believe that a small change in me is a good start and will make a difference... big or small... its still a good difference. I am sure there are more people thinking the same way :-)

All I need is to put in some time and effort to make it work, to make it happen. Its not easy but its doable! I will try not to treat wrong with wrong, but rather rise above!!! Specially when it conflicts with my beliefs.

The 53 Places To Go in 2008

I received this by email earlier this morning :-)

What’s on your travel itinerary in the new year? From a new luxury hotel in Laos (where you can take in the view of ancient temples from a chaise lounge by the infinity pool) to the waterfront night clubs of Hvar (the St. Tropez of Croatia) to Death Valley (where recent heavy rains have some flower bloggers speculating on a dazzling spring bloom next year), the travel choices for global nomads have never been more varied.

Check it out. Click here.

What would you add to the list?

Just Another Queen Day!

I have missed my friend's birthday last month and tried to make it up to her last night. I asked her to come in for a girls night in, just me and her.. she wanted to do her nails and of course my best bet was to arrange something with Queenails.

So at 5:50PM she arrived and I have picked out a purple cake (that was the Bree within me, because we have a purple lounge/room in our house and I like to coordinate colors and stuff...!!) but just in case she would not like it, I brought in some mini cakes from Opera (YUMMMMM) in other flavors heehee ;-)

At 6:00PM, Queenails staff came in. I tried "Her Majesty, the Queen" this time... another amazing experience... out of this world! I swear! I couldnt even go out for dinner with my friend because I was in a relaxed, stay at home, mood! heehee

I cant tell you how much I love their service :-) Those two hours of pampering were so worth it.. and my friend LOVED it too :-) YAAY

I bought this dress, this shoe, and this bag.

My total was around KWD 364

And if you add up all these items from the links I provided.. they total to USD 871.60 (which is equivelant to KWD 238.909)

Thats over KWD 100 difference! BCBG Kuwait SUCKS! Who agrees?

MUNCH/Axis of Evil

I went to the soft opening of MUNCH (The new deli restaurant) at Dar Al Awadi and had a blast! Axis of Evil were there for a quick walk in meet and greet. They are so fun to be around and so friendly!! I pumped into some good old friends, some co-workers, and my cousin joined it I had so much fun with her ;-)

Ohh and I had some pictures taken with the Axis of Evil people (YAAAAY). The food was great. I tried their cupcakes too, which were amazing! Loved it all. I will see if I can post some pics here ;-)

Too bad they are here for ONE night only for their comedy stand up, and all tickets are sold out already.... I heard they are selling them in the black market now for KD 60 (originally sold at AUK for KD 20)!!!

UPDATE: Two pictures were added, one with the cupcakes me and my cousin ate (obviously LOL) and the other are the Axis of Evil guys with Chef Al Sharhan (whos is an AMAZING cook) and some of the staff ;-) Enjoy!

Axis of Evil in Kuwait

Dont confuse the title with the video above...

I meant they are in Kuwait, and will be performing in AUK tomorrow night, but will have a meet and greet at Dar Al Awadi in the afternoon! COOL!

Maz Jobrani makes me laugh! heehee

Random

I usually listen to Marina FM and/or BBC Arabic in the morning on my way to work. I kinda switch between the two... The funny thing is when I am listening to Marina I know when I am late to work! Meaning.... if I turn on my car and "Bastat Soug Essimach" (fish market news) is on then I am REALLY late, because I usually am approaching the parking when they give the price of the "Halwayo" fish! This morning I turned on the radio as I was leaving the house and in less than a minute, they started! I was like $HIT! I am late to work LOL! I think its funny how I relate tardiness to radio programs rather than looking at the actual time! Since I live close to Kuwait city (and I was driving like a maniac this morning) I was few minutes late (my definition of few minutes is somwhere more than a couple of minutes but less than or equal to five minutes).. Then my trip from the parking to the elevator took me another few minutes (which is fairly good, for wearing heels and walking like a bullet)... Oh and then finally I reach the elevators... well, I was at my desk a little bit south of 8:10am! Good job! LOL

Another remark I heard last week that I walk fast, oh and I walk like a horse heehee... not the way a horse walks but when they get their eyes sides covered so they can only look straight! heehee! I hardly make eye contact.. Specially in the elevator (well that to avoid the laughing in the elevator)

And guess what? A lady showed up at work asking for donation to this little girl suffering from Lukemia, keeping in mind that we are on the 20th floor and that we have seen this same lady more than three times for that exact same story in the past year or two! She would not care when anyone tell her that shes not allowed on the floor!

Oh thats just a random post... with me blabbering! Its SUNDAY! YAAAAY! Happy Week Everyone :-P

European English

As received by email :-)
Ansam
________________________

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year,'s' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'.. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards Kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling Kan be expekted to reach the stage where! More komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

Rawda Soft Ice Cream

My friend called me earlier and asked me if I was up for soft ice cream! Knowing me, of course I was up for it.

We have been loyal customers to Rawda Co-op Branch, in block 3, sweet store (I think its called Château de Cadeau) for few years now. I would park my car and the sales lady would prepare my soft ice cream cone and have it ready as I walk in (holding my KD 0.250 note), just as I like it... mixed (half chocolate and half vanilla)... that is when the store is not packed with customers of course.

Its been a while since we last did that, so we decided to go... it was around 7:00ish PM and the store was FULL! I mean FULL full! As soon as we got our ice cream cones, kids in the store started staring at as and pulling their mommies clothes... whispering "I want ice cream too". About three kids in the store got their ice cream cones, a guy parked his car and instead of going to the grocery store he decided to stop and order two ice cream cones. Another lady came in, saw me and asked.. "I want the same please"

It was funny! AND YUMMY!

Aunt Benazir's false promises - By Fatima Bhutto

Fatima Bhutto (Benazir's niece) complains about the mambo jumbo about her aunt saving Pakistan and how wrong it is that the media is strongly showing support to her! She write about it in the LA Times - November 14 (to read the article click here).

I strongly believe that Benazir is gaining support from the media being a Muslim female that is in danger from all the extremists there... that is because the media shows Muslim females as hopeless and helpless in many cases! They ignore the fact that she is hated because she is guilty of corruption and not because she is a rebellious female trying to save Pakistan (Lets not forget the fact that she has been PM twice before so its nothing against females in Pakistan.. Seriously)!!!!

Well... apparently its common for people in the world of politics (and life as a whole) that if someone's popularity goes deep down they do an act or two... just so they gain it back!

Which College Major Should You Be?

Your major should be part Business. You believe confidence is everything, and nothing's more important than a first impression. Success is measured in dollars and your attitude's going to make you very successful. All that's left is to choose which I-Bank to work for after you graduate.
Your major should be part Art. You are sensitive, creative, and you don't follow established rules. Unfortunately, you'll have to follow some rules if you ever want that promotion at Starbucks.

Sorry!! Do I Know You?

Facebook is an interesting social network. I happen to be new to it (compared with a lot of people I know who kept asking me to open an account :-P). I have got in touch with people I knew from long time ago, and still meeting people... though I set the red lines (the lines I am not supposed to cross) and follow my own set of rules. I know this might seem so "old fashion" to many of you, but its a slim chance-to-none that I accept friend requests from people that I dont know.... but, and yes there is a BUT here, I accepted a friend request from what seems to be this nice young and annoying girl. I have never heard of her in my life, and she is like 9 years younger than I am who strongly believe that I used to be her classmate!

I tried to explain it to her but she wrote on my wall (the wall, if you're not familiar with the Facebook, is a personal space on each person's profile where you find a lot of posted messages from your friends)... back to the subject, she called me idiot on my wall!!! That kinda ticked me off but still I didnt bother to say things back because I really am not in a state of mind to argue about such silly things in life! So I just ignored her, and then she sent me a personal private message asking me if I was a student at this "X school"....

To make things clearer.. because I thought it was a prank played by someone I know, I went into her profile and checked out her friends' list. Turn out that we share a friend. I messaged my friend and asked her if she knew who this girl is, but she didnt knew who she was either...

This doesnt end here! So this girl who claims to be my classmate gives me names of people (full names) that used to be in our class. I didnt doubt myself for a moment but checking on her friends' list I came across one of the names she told me about, so I messaged him and he doesnt know her either "SURPRISE!" heehee. So he tells me lets play a prank and tell her we were her classmates.... I have to be honest I liked it at first, but its old school! So she keep asking me questions and giving me more names and birthdates (YES I KNOW too may info) till I was like WOW THIS THING HAS TO STOP NOW! I come clean and I tell her.. I am not who you think I am, I never went to the same school, I dont know any of the names you are giving out, I am almost a decade older than you so I cant be your ex-classmate....

I dont want to be rude or anything... but should I just block her or try to make peace and be Facebook friends? I dont like the added stress in my life! Arghhhhh! I have no idea if she really went on giving my full name to people on Facebook LOL not that it matters but what is freaking me out even more that she is still messaging me as I am writing this post!

Lets be positive and look at the bright side here... I gained a friend, her! Well maybe!!! I got a good laugh from this Kuwaiti guy who seemed nice and I dont believe he did go for the prank either, and I am having a good laugh at the situation as a whole!

What do you all think?

It's furry and walks on all fours. Beyond that, about the only thing certain about the critter photographed by a hunter's camera is that some people have gotten the notion it could be a Sasquatch, or bigfoot. Others say it's just a bear with a bad skin infection.

Carrefour Carts Strolling Down the Avenues

Do you recall my Carrefour Post about the guy complaining that he cant take his cart inside the mall, the Avenues? Well I guess this is History!!!! I was at Lorenzino Cafe last Saturday and saw some people strolling around with Carrefour shopping carts! What an ugly site!

Fake CNN Website

I read about this in News Harpoon.

It goes; Crazy but true-some racist with a Tennessee IP address constructed a fake CNN website, with a fake story about "radical Hispanic separatist organization" taking responsibilty for setting the fires with "Moltov Cocktails" because "Altzan belongs to indigenous people, the Chicanas and Chicanos of Altazan"

I did this chart for ZAIN (previously known as MTC: Mobile Telecom Co) for the period Oct 4th - Oct 25th.

It reads ZAIN in Arabic... kinda! How about that? Is ZAIN a ZAIN company after all?

Kuwaitize Saud Port and Saudize Al Khafji Port

Read this article. Its in Arabic, though it is talking about some mutual trades in lands between Kuwait and Saudi when those lands belong to Kuwaiti!!!!!

It goes...

The possibility of Saudi Arabia giving “the Port of King Saud” to the Kuwaitis for that the geographical distance of the port is within Kuwaiti borders (considering the sovereign depth that Kuwait falls within), while Kuwait will give “Al-Khafji” port to the Saudis, which is an oil rich port! The discussions will raise to borderline that litigant area.

The “Port of King Saud” is notorious for raising question marks between the two countries (Kuwait and Saudi) especially that it was taking this classical move since 30+ years.

After liberating Garooh Island of Kuwait in 1991, the Saudi Arabian Navy raised their Saudi flag on the island (the first Kuwaiti land to be liberated), and this issue went into some political and disputable issues and that file was shut quietly to keep a good relation between the two countries.

The question is.. How much longer do we have to keep quiet and shut such issues quietly before our flag is replaced???

OCD! Seriously?

Do I have OCD? - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder -

I did not reach Monica Geller's level yet, I mean I am neat but she is a neat freak... but really am I getting there? Are there any gradual steps to be an OCD person?

You tell me...

My desk at work is somewhat tidy and neat.. not cluttered, all my items are labeled with my name just in case! That includes the highlighters, scissors, pens, pencils...etc

I like to have my tissue box, mouse pad, keyboard, phone...etc. in a specific place. If someone comes by, use my stabler, and just leave it in a different place, I take it back where it belongs.

When my boss talks to me in his office I tend to tidy things up on his desk, like fix the papers and pile them.. take things off the floor and put them on the table/desk unintentionally!

I designed my room to look like a hotel room, but also feel comfy. My bathroom as well. I got comments saying that it does actually look like a hotel room.. and even funnier, a friend of mine saw a picture of some candles in my bathroom and thought it was a spa. Things in my room are also categorized and are fit to certain places.

My closet is also categorized. Not just that, but when you open a cupboard you see my clothes color-coordinated. White shirts and tops are put together, blues also, pinks, reds...etc. It is just easier for my eyes when I pick a skirt and match it with a top.

When I use the basin to wash my hands or face.. I have to (HAVE TO) take a tissue and wipe away excess water when I am done. I don't like the water all over around the basin. It drives one of my friends crazy heehee!!!

I have edited this post about five times now since I started it!

I can go further on this subject! But I think this is enough for now!!

This post is dedicated to KK.. You asked me for a new post, and this is the best I could come up with. I hope you enjoyed it :-)

Totally Fish

Our Eid ritual every year is as follows;
First day of Eid is for family greetings, visiting the whole family (both my mom's and dad's)
Second day is for us, we go out for lunch... Every year in the Sheraton hotel
Third day we go to my aunt's farm in Abdaly

Whos responsible for making lunch reservations? ME :-)

This year, we were busy towards the end of Ramadan with the funeral and all... so it totally slipped my mind, and it was totally a mess, totally chaotic, totally out of my hands since all restaurants were fully booked, but totally awesome that I managed to get a table at Totally Fish!

If you know me well, I am not a seafood person... nothing that swims, crawls, or lives in the sea can come near me... during my teenage years I started eating shrimps. In 1995 I tried sushi, and totally got hooked on till now. Then came lobsters, clams, crabs but still NO FISH for me.. but not till a couple of years ago I started eating fish! It was like experimenting a new yummy world I swear! I have no idea how my taste buds started to change. I will be like hmmm I want grilled hamour... my dad's jaws will drop so hard! He will be like: Is that Ansam talking??

All those years they were trying so hard to make me just try fish! My dad would say something like: If you eat this I will give you KWD 100.. But with no use!!

Look at me now?!! I make lunch reservation at Totally Fish!!! Yes :-P

Now I do eat everything that swims, crawls, and lives in the sea... I would go and pick the fish I want and enjoy it to the fullest.

Totally Fish Experience was totally successful. I tried shrimps, jumbo shrimps, raw oysters, Lebanese style fried fish (the tiny ones), some of my sisters dishes (sole, penne with seafood...etc) and my main dish was Sea Bass cooked in sea salt.... ahhhhhhh sooooo good. The food was awesome awesome awesome...

The service was AMAZING! The manager kept popping in and out, helping with dishes and suggesting some other dishes... checking on us every now and then.. The staff and waiters were super duper friendly.

Overall... I give it hmmm 4.5/5... it was a bit pricey! I get it.. its seafood, and seafood restaurants are usually expensive, but we are in seafood rich country. Plus, the restaurant location is at the Marina Mall Crescent not in a hotel ;-) Would I recommend it? Oh yeah! To all seafood lovers, but when it comes to those of you who dont eat fish, I say TOO BAD!

You can call them up and make your reservation and try it out for yourself if you haven't done that already ;-) Their phone number is: 224-4960/1 or check out their link at Al Shaya website

C'est La Vie

The past few years have been overwhelming. People coming in and out.. moving in or away. Its funny how life surprise us everyday with things. I have been going to a funeral services and baby-showers/receptions on the same day. Celebrating a new life and mourning all in one day.

On October 1st, right after work, I went along with my sister to visit a dear family member in Makki Juma Hospital (specialized in cancer cases and treatments). She had a brain tumor that was in an advanced stage. She was in a coma, two nurses at her bedside, and her maid. As we walked in, the nurse said: "momma is not good today!" We sat next to her bed as she laid down so alive, yet so dead. We could hear her breathing quiet heavily. Her chest and head were moving with every breath she takes.. That’s how heavy it was.. after around 30 minutes, she started making some gurgling noises and started to cough while breathing. The nurse switched on her oxygen monitor and told us its dropping along with her blood pressure.

We stayed there for about an hour and then decided to head back home. As you all know it’s the holy month of Ramadan, and we were fasting. Dinner was to be set soon.. We kissed her goodbye and left.

At 7:00ish pm we received "THE" phone call. She passed away. God rests her soul.

Unique Online Services in Kuwait

Kuwaitis love the convenience. They do!! We have so many online shopping services for various categories! You will be surprise, I swear!!

I personally use 6alabat a lot to order meals at work or at home. Its awesome and easy to use, specially that you can modify your order (i.e. no tomatoes, brown bread instead of white, extra dressing..etc)... and to avoid talking to them is a plus for me! I will for sure get my order right on papers instead of them saying I heard you saying something else.

There is also Taw9eel online grocery shopping site. I have never used that one YET! But I think it can come in handy in some specific situations such as someone with a broken leg, sick, or an older lady that cannot leave the house or cannot drive. I would much better rather go myself since I sometimes find it hard to remember brands of the things I usually buy. I am more of a visual person.

Another interesting online store in Kuwait is eBuyQ8. Can you guess their service? Its an online FISH market! Yes you read that right... FISH!! heehee. Shop for fresh fish, shrimps, crab... you name it!

But the email I got earlier scored #1! Its an online home labor Services called Q8Khadam. How about that for an online service? House maids, cooks, drivers, nurses, farmers, and many more!

So any other interesting and unique online shops you know in Kuwait?

Sexy Car Wash

OK so my sister woke up one day earlier than her usual time, looked into the window and guess what? She took this snap from her mobile... its our driver washing my car LOL

Paper or Plastic... Check OK?

A cheque (also spelled check) is a negotiable instrument instructing a financial institution to pay a specific amount of a specific currency from a specific demand account held in the maker/depositor's name with that institution. Both the maker and payee may be natural persons or legal entities.

This is the dictionary speaking, but me.. well, I am more of a plastic girl! I do carry cash with me but not in large amounts. I would rather use my ATM and credit cards, and hmmm well... OK FINNNNNNNNE! I carry around a checkbook! Yes! I do! I swear I do!

I dont know why people here in Kuwait get surprised when they know that I carry around a checkbook... even worse, they are just surprised I own one actually!

In Kuwait, for some odd reasons, its rare that people have checkbooks. To be quiet honest, I have not used it much.. I just wrote two checks since I have received it. The last person I wrote check to was a photographer, I wanted to print out some pictures he have taken. Well, I think he works as an individual and then makes a deal with a studio to print out his snaps, so they will only accept cash because its not really their work, and then I think he gives them a percentage. So when I went to that studio to get my prints, I didnt have cash with me so I asked him; "Can I write you a check?" He was like: "A check??? That's a first!!! But I guess its ok"

Am I the only person in my generation that owns a checkbook in Kuwait?

Seasonal Allergies

I left work yesterday about an hour earlier and went home! I threw myself on the coach helplessly! I was not able to sleep because of the allergies yet not able to fully function LOL. I was like a zombie! So alive, yet so dead!!! I waited patiently for Futoor time, the minute I heard the prayer.. I drank full glass of water. I waited few minutes before I ate something else! I was so thirsty.

I have been suffering from this !*(^#(^#*#%^% seasonal allergy since the start of this month. It got worse last week. I started taking "Clarinase" at night and found it helpful, it dries my runny nose, which is super... but it also dries my mouth BIG TIME... and all I can think of all day is water.. glass of water!! So I have decided not to take it Tuesday night. BAD idea!! I woke up sneezing, I swear it was non-stop. I so regretted not taking the seasonal allergies shot!!!

I went to work, but it was driving me nuts!! My eyes were red and watery, my nose was also red, runny, itchy, stuffy, and congested all over.. oh and worst of all.. this bad BAD headache.

I was trying to function.. gathering all my energy up to do my best, but there were those breaks in between where I had to stop, resting my head against my hands, with my eyes closed out of the extreme discomfort that I was in! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I so wanted to leave work, but it was still early... 11ish and I was trying hard to keep it all up at least till market closes!

I went to see my ENT doctor at around 8:30pm.. he asked me what was wrong and wrote it all down, and then when he started examining me, he looked into my throat and said... oh this is mild, then looked into my ears and said I was fine, but the minute he looked into my nostrils he was like OHHHH thats bad! its really inflamed and really bad! He gave me the next day (today) off. I was fatigue and restless. I didnt even eat suhoor or anything after futoor.

The medication seems to be helping since I am not sneezing as much.. at least not sneezing my heads off like I was yesterday... but knowing me, I am not big on medications and so.. and I really dont want to get used to taking medications. Any natural remedies you have to share? Would saline help?

MAMMY - Saturday Evening Puss

Are you a fan of Tom & Jerry? Well... I am, and I have always wondered how Mammy Two-Shoes looked like? I mean she is usually seen from the waist down but what about her face? What does she look like?

Well, this episode, "Saturday Evening Puss" Mammy was going out for the night to play cards... the minute she leaves the house Tom invite his friends over (street cats) for a party. They annoy the hell outta Jerry who winds up calling Mammy... who rushes home to crash Tom's party... This is where you can briefly see her face for about two frames as she runs back home.

We have seen Mammy's shoes a lot, but here is a picture of her face (FINALLY) heehee
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did... I've always wondered how she looked like :-)

Those are two pictures of hers.... one of which is a captured image from the episode "Saturday Evening Puss" which was first aired in 1950.

And here is the video for that episode;

Random

I come to work in the morning and I see those merc##en##ari##es at each door/gate (entrances). Basically, there have been some couple of fights here, with the police and ambulances getting involved, along with security guards (I would rather not mention the reason behind those fights because its STUPID)! Its is very uncomfortable!!!

I pass by them without making eye contact! They are scary! They look savage I swear, as if they are waiting for something to happen. I can see their reflection on the glass doors and they stare at each and everyone of us (us being the people who come in and out of the building). Those men and their looks are really making me feel uneasy and uncomfortable! I hope one day I come to work in peaceful environment.

EEEEK!

LoFat

LoFat is one of my favorite healthy gourmet food -if not the only one- in Kuwait! They offer a wide range of yummy healthy food that is low in calories and low in fat for very reasonable prices.

LoFat idea started with Abdullah AlEisa, an engineer graduate from Boston University who worked in engineering four years before, well I don't want to say quitting, he happily gave his full time and attention to his own business and became an entrepreneur.

I have tried so many things on their menu and loved almost everything I've ordered...
Their lettuce wraps are so delicious and so is their "un-fried fries" which I think are so underrated because not only they are healthy fries but also because they taste and smell SO hmmmm GOOD. Their beef and chicken tortillas are really good for healthy food! I cant believe they are low in fat! This is too good to be true! I also tried their turkey sandwich for lunch earlier and again.. yum! I mean I have tried some healthy food sandwiches here in Kuwait and they taste nothing like LoFat sandwiches... Even better? Have a guiltless pleasure and try their brownies!!!! Yes low fat brownies!!

Over all, the food presentation, the smell, the taste, and quality makes it the best healthy food in the country, and the good news is that they will be opening LoFat Gourmet Restaurant with complete seating so soon (next to Holiday Inn Downtown). This will give us all a whole new healthy experience! I cant wait!

You can browse LoFat Menu in 6alabat or call them at 766-6733/246-4364/265-0287

Little Treats Store

My sister and I received a Little Treats invitation for the store opening a couple of days ago.
The invitation came along with one little cupcake and a card.. (I would post a picture, but its already gone :-P)

Today, we went to the store opening and tried some of their new flavors. I fell in love instantly with the applicious cupcake (apple cupcake). I went back home with two boxes for my family.

The store is located in Al Wataniya Complex in Salmiya (mezzanine floor) across the street from NBK and Zahra Complex.

Try'em out... the new flavors that we tried were Apple cupcakes, carrot cupcakes, flake cupcake, lemon cupcake....

The store phone number is (for special orders): 575-7292

Movie Ad

I went to see Ratatouille a couple of days ago and saw Al Watan TV ad on Kuwait. Basically the ad takes you from Gulf Road where the Marina Mall bridge is to the boat marina and the hotel itself, to Kuwait Towers, then some Kuwaiti water towers, onward to the Liberation tower.. the scenes changes from a tower to another, malls, hotel, roads... its not bad! I just dont like it enough!!!! Why? Well... it concentrates on looks of modern Kuwait only, and neglect the scenes I like such as Kuwaiti Old Gates (famous front doors of old Kuwait, the ones that used to protect Kuwait in the old times)! Also, it would not hurt to see some old dhows (AKA booom = old boats) in the ad maybe with some pearl hunting and fishing.. its part of our history. And what about Jahra Palace? This is all part of our culture and heritage! Its nice to show both rather than just concentrate on racing sports car on Gulf Road next to Marina Mall! Dont you agree?

Queenails

OK, so how many times you needed to have your nails done but did not really feel like changing, driving, looking for a parking spot, and most importantly (at least to me) finding the the right slippers to wear that wont ruin your pedicure!

I am guessing the answer is "SO MANY TIMES"

So how about being a queen for an hour or two at the comfort of your house? Sounds good? You bet!!

I have received a gift voucher from the owner of Queenails to try out their luxurious home service.

Two ladies came in to my house with a black suitcase and some fuchsia pink ribbons tied on every zipper... I guided them to my room. They asked me where I would be sitting and I pointed at the sofa in my room before I left to get them something to drink, and when I returned my room was turned into a spa in less than two minutes!!

I sat down admiring the new atmosphere I was in...

Spa-like music
Lavender incense
Candles
Large bowl with fuchsia rose petals and hot stones

I sat down thinking... wow! that was fast and impressive! She offered me tea (I actually had to pick the flavor I wanted).. all this happened when I left the room for two short minutes.. and its all self-sufficient! They have brought everything they needed with them, including the water to fill the bowls and for the tea..

So I sat down on my sofa, admiring their work, and enjoying the wonderful atmosphere..
They started with cutting and filing.. then lavender scrub, followed by a lavender mask... and, this is the best part, a shoulder massage before I chose the colors for the nail polishes!

The ladies were quiet most of the time, just asking me to relax and/or if I was comfortable at most. The music was soothing, and so was the lavender smell.. This was one helluva treat I got! Just what I needed! A quiet afternoon treatment at the comfort of my home!

Would I try it again!? Definitely! I dont mind being "her Majesty, the Queen" for another couple of hours now would I!?!!

I recommend it girls!! Pick up your phone and call them on 508-0746

On this day, today, in 2001, and 1990

1990 - Iraq invaded Kuwait, seizing control of the oil-rich emirate; the Iraqis were later driven out in Operation Desert Storm.

The interesting part is that the Calendar of 1990 is exactly the same as the 2007 one.

You can reuse your calendar as follows:

Assume X to be the year of your old calendar. Now if X was....
1. A leap year, you can reuse it in X+28
2. A year after a leap year, you can reuse it in X+6, X+17, and X+28
3. Two years after a leap year, you can reuse it in X+11, X+17, and X+28
4. Three years after a leap year, you can reuse it in X+11, X+22, and X+28

1988 was a leap year, making 1990 falls into the third category and the rule to apply here is X+11, X+17, and X+28

So now X = 1990

1990 + 11 = 2001 and 1990 + 17 = 2007

And all, August 2, of 1990, 2001, and 2007, fall on a Thursday!

I know I know its a bit nerdish of me :-P but if you by any chance happen to have 1990 or 2001 calendar REUSE them... if not, save this years calendar for the year 2018 and save the environment from the extra waste:-P

Fusion - New Age Sushi

Japanese food, specially sushi, has been my favorite cuisine for the last decade, and on average I will have sushi for dinner twice per month if not more.

I am a loyal customer to MAKI, so its #1 on my list.... and then I pause to think which sushi place comes next on my list after that.. but I've just realized earlier when I went to Fusion Gourmet Japanese Restaurant, at the Galleria 2000, for dinner that I was missing a lot!

Basically Fusion has this new concept to it... its a Japanese restaurant with a Hollywood-esque! Its unique! I have not seen something like that in Kuwait!!! I loved it :-)

The complimentary dish served was tuna and cucumbers... I'm so picky when it comes to tuna... but this was a bite of heaven!!!

The menu was uninviting and it put us down when we were browsing through it, but the service really made it up! We were told that the menu was old and is in the process of changing, so we were given some amazing suggestions... all of which were as promised, delicious! I mean all the food we ordered was really REALLY delicious! We ordered two salads -Salmon Avocado and Crispy Crab-, one edamame, a falafil like potato patties, chicken teriyaki, vegetable fried rice, new age epi tempura, and volcano maki.... One word; Exquisite!!! ALL OF IT!

I would strongly recommend those potato patties and the new age epi tempura!!

Dessert was also something I look forward to have again.. organic ice-cream with crushed biscuits and chocolate 'n caramel sauces! Mmm Mmm Mmm!!!!

Ohh and you know how when you are looking at the food on the menu or in a magazine and think "wow this looks really good" but then they have it presented to you looking way too different?? That was not the case!!! The food was really well presented as if it was a picture out of a cook book or a restaurant ad!

Good Location + Delicious Food + Awesome Presentation + Amazing Service = Wonderful Experience

I give Fusion two thumbs up and will definitely go there again and again!

To Tan or not to Tan?

Summer time tan!! And we are talking "Kuwait's Summer Time". Summer might be the season to go out in the sun and enjoy the outdoors, but we are talking Kuwait here and the trick is to have fun...... "safely".

A lot of people dream of getting this golden tan, so they rush to get sun tan lotions, creams, sprays….. etc. without even knowing the difference between SPF and UV!

The UV Index
Ultra Violet Index is a scientific term used to tell us how many UV rays reaches earth at different times throughout the day. Those rays are always present but not visible and consists of both; UVA and UVB. The UVB is a good source Vitamin D3.
When looking at the scale of the UV index know that the higher the number, the stronger the rays are and the more exposure you will get! When the index is at a high number you have to be careful for that it wont take very long to burn your skin... just keep in mind when tanning at this time; "how pretty is your red tan with the peel effect" ewe!

The SPF
The Sun Protection Factor is the number you see on the bottle. The higher the number, the higher the protection you get. How to decide which number you need is based on your skin and how fast you normally burn. If you tan easily under the sand without a burn, you can use 4 and above...

Sunblock Vs. Sunscreen
On one hand, sunscreens usually come in the form of a lotion or cream, and has an SPF rating. When applied it reacts with the sun creating an invisible barrier. It is better to apply it 20 minutes prior to sun exposure and swimming, and reapply when you come out of the water. There are some waterproof sunscreens that last longer than the regular ones.

On the other hand, a sundblock is thick and gooey, and has no SPF rating. It completely blocks the sun's UV rays. A lot of times you can spot it on people easily applied on their noses and lips. So when shopping for a sunblock then look for a bottle that has NO SPF rating on it.

Remember, sunscreen and sunblock do not block out Vitamin D, they only block the UV radiation. And too much tanning can increase the risks of skin cancer, wrinkles, sun spots, discolored skin, well..... just looking bad in general!

Enjoy the sun..... safely ;-)

Anne-Julie Aubry

Last week I was browsing through 248am and read a post about Anne-Julie Aubry. I checked out her website and fell in love with every piece. She is an amazing artist! I LOVE her style! I am looking forward to buying some of her paintings to hang on my bedroom walls!! As a matter of fact, I changed my header image to one of her paintings... which goes well with the title of my blog (Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May)
That piece is called "A life with Flowers"

The image above in this post is called "The Bath" it is so cute. Isn't it?

Anne-Julie Aubry, born in 1980, in a small town in Eastern France. A graduated from Beaux-Arts in 2001, Ecole de L'Image of Epinal with a degree in Illustration.

People who use internet networking sites are being warned that they could be at risk of identity theft.

Credit information group Equifax said members of sites such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook may be putting too many details about themselves online.

It said fraudsters could use these details to steal someone's identity and apply for credit and benefits.

About 80,000 people in the UK were victims of identity theft last year, at a cost to the economy of £1.5bn.

The Price of Healthier Life Style

I am paying a very high price to adopt to my new "healthier" life style!
Lunch at work (five times per week) for me is from Diet Center.
(Check my Previous Post About Diet-Shop)
Their food is of a high quality and is tasty too!!

I work out as much as I can and at every given opportunity! Which I like actually. Its a stress relieve, specially when you run and run... and RUN!

I am not a big fun of munchies.. so I am fine, but I do crave chocolate between now and then... But really, I am handling it all fairly well.

I am a big fan of plain, non-fat, yoghurt.. also I like the Elle et Vire fruity yoghurt selection.. and when speaking healthy-food-wise, yoghurt is so good and healthy as well...

OK, so whats the price of the healthier life style I am adopting to?

Well... can you believe that I ate ONLY half of a Krispy Kreme doughnut last night! YES! HALF ONLY!!!!! My usual minimum was TWO!! So I ate a quarter of my usual portion! I didnt do that gradually and skipped the one doughnut stage to the half doughnut! I was cutting it into half with a knife! I killed it! I ATE ONLY HALF OF THAT DOUGHNUT!!! and the thing is I dont like doughnuts.. I just like Krispy Kreme ones!! All that for the price of a healthier life style!!

The Bowler's Daughter - Damien Rice

Thanks "Girl Meets World" awesome song

Why car keys - duplicates - cost you an arm and a leg?

I dropped my car keys, and the plastic cover got broken! (same happend to my spare key some time ago), and when I called the Lexus service to inquire about making a duplicate, my heart got broken too! It would cost me KWD 70.000 without programming.. and that will require them to have my car for a whole day or two! I checked prices on the net and they are in the same range! So WHY!!!! Why that expensive??

Apparently that is the price of technology! Keys are no longer just a piece of metal that can work the whole thing out by its own, there are more things to take into consideration to unlock your door and turn on your car!!! we have now electronic access systems and computrized chips.

The head/tip of the key contains a tiny robot radio that enables some sort of radio communication with the car! HUH! The password can include 19 digits, which means that it will allow A LOT of combinations! Interesting!!!

This all helped slash the theft rate on some models by 90 percent!!!

IKEA Laundry Rack/Basket... whatever!

Dreamy! Yes its another post about Landry Baskets heehee!! But as you said, there is a hidden lesson here :-P And Fayoora, this is the IKEA one you are talking about.

My friend was in IKEA and told me that there is a similar Laundry Basket to the one I posted about for 750 fils!! I was like WHAT!!!!!! and then I asked him to take pictures, which he did... obviously :-P

Well... this Rack is is somewhat similar but not the same...! Not like the picture I posted on my blog... but 750 fils! WOW! That is MUCH lower than mine! I mean I paid KWD 17.000 (check my previous post http://ansam518.blogspot.com/2007/07/spot-differences.html)

My sister's rack is almost the same - less than KWD 4.000 - Option A

IKEA Rack somewhat the same - KWD 0.750 - Option B

With the KWD 17.000 I could have bought 4.3 Option A racks (keep the 0.3 part for later)

Also, with KWD 17.000 I could have bought 22.7 Option B racks (also the 0.7 part is needed)

If I added 0.3 and 0.7 (both from Option A and Option B respectively) I would get ONE Option AB rack... If you dont get it, just ignore it... its me being silly and angry!!

Ohh and yes, thank you Abz for the pics ;-)
