"Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May" is a poem by Robert Herrick. This poem portrays our existence on earth, and that people age as life goes on, and everything becomes boundless. Herrick here urges people to take advantage of youth and energy while they may! The poem is in the genre of carpe diem, to seize the day.

APPLES

You are cordially invited to APPLES Art Exhibition on Sunday March 8th in Marina Hotel at 7:00PM. The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, and installation by five Arab artists, including my amazing friend Shurooq Amin :-)
It is organized to celebrate womens day.

You can check the event on facebook...

"The 8th of March is Women's Day, and what better way to celebrate and honor it than by organizing a wonderful art exhibition, as Ms Fatina Al-Sayed from Fine Arts has done. She has gathered five talented Arab artists, each of whom will contribute their own style and technique of talent to the show, by paintings, sculpture, and installation to express what it means to be a woman, how it affects their artistic vision, their craft and their philosophy. Don't miss this fine unique experience"

Hope to see you there ;-)

Into the Land of Futility

Into the Land of Futility
By Shurooq Amin
***************

Gothic women

Embracing the sky

“Come with me

And i will take you

Into the Land of Futility”

Light calls to me

From whence my father resides,

An extra burden on the angles.

Warm chills flutter

On wings of crystal.

Darkness beguiles me

From whence Lucifer towers

Lord of a child’s nightmare

Up till the age when she cries

“daddy, daddy”

And finds no one there

But the faces

Of mother, brother

And the embryo of a sister.

Unborn as yet.

Catalytic presumptions.

Daddy has gone.

Sister has come.

Irreplaceable replacement.

God’s gift to you, mother.

Introduction to Bayt Abdallah

Bayt Abdullah is a children’s hospice that has been commissioned by KACCH to provide specialized care for children who are not expected to reach adulthood, and their families, enabling them to live their lives as fully as possible for as long as possible.

The focus of the design is on the individual needs of children and their families delivered within a very attractive, child-friendly and playful environment supported by highly skilled pediatric palliative care staff.

Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and terraces and fronted by an inlet of the Arabian Gulf, Bayt Abdallah will offer children expert pain and symptom management as well as opportunities to play and socialize with other children.

Bayt Abdallah is named after a four-year old boy called Abdallah who returned to Kuwait from London when treatment failed to cure his life-threatening condition. His mother promised that he would never again have to stay in a hospital and took care of him at home with the support of KACCH and a team of very special people. This experience inspired KACCH to work towards making this specialized care available for other children with terminal conditions in Kuwait and has resulted in the design of Bayt Abdallah, the first children’s hospice in the Middle East, designed by Alia Al-Ghunaim, a young Kuwaiti architect.

Orientalism - Paintings

As promised ;-)
PS: I dont have the artists' names to include. I got these pictures/paintings from the net.

Orientalism

Orientalism is the study of Near and Far Eastern societies and cultures, languages and people by Westerners. It can also refer to the imitation or depiction of aspects of Eastern cultures in the West by writers, designers and artists. It encompasses art, music, literature, architecture and design but, as far as Oriental Art is concerned, it is characterized by its focus on a common fascination with a region rather than a movement or a style.
The term "Orient" is derived from the Latin word "Oriens" which means "east" (or literally "rising sun")

The paintings are basically a style of art associated with a group of 19th-century artists who were fond of depicting harem girls, sheikhs and Middle-Eastern scenery - whether or not the artist had actually spent time in the Middle East. Delacroix, Ingres and (Henri) Rousseau - to name the three best-known artists - all employed "oriental" touches to various

Depictions of Islamic "Moors" and "Turks" (imprecisely named Muslim groups of North Africa and West Asia) can be found in Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque art. But it was not until the 19th century that "Orientalism" in the arts became an established theme. In these works the myth of the Orient as exotic and corrupt is most fully articulated. Such works typically concentrated on Near-Eastern Islamic cultures.

*********************************

My View on Orientalism:

I have always appreciated Islamic art and architecture! I am also a fan of Orientalism Art.
The paintings are so warm and live.. I would stand in front of one and stare for long time.
It is very rich! When I was looking at one of those paintings at my uncle's house I felt the warmth. I saw live coming out of it.. it was somehow in movement! I felt the heat of the climate/desert... I swear these paintings are so live.. Some good ones can appear photographic too! They look real, and are able to take you into other dimensions.. way beyond it!

As for owning one... hmm I don't really know! I can absolutely say these are amazing pieces and work of art (actually on of my favorites).. To me, they are something I would appreciate looking at and enjoy... (basically having the pleasure to simply look at without having to own it)..

My style is rather simple chic to modern.. with some art deco maybe! But if I have one of those painting, I know I would create the atmosphere for it in a corner of the house to compliment the whole look... so to speak!

I will add another post with more paintings later today.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may - Robert Herrick

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the Sun,
The higher he's a-getting;
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best, which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Time still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may go marry;
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
