"Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May" is a poem by Robert Herrick. This poem portrays our existence on earth, and that people age as life goes on, and everything becomes boundless. Herrick here urges people to take advantage of youth and energy while they may! The poem is in the genre of carpe diem, to seize the day.

Are English speakers verbally insane????

Well... English is an Indo-European language belonging to the West Germanic branch; the official language of Britain and the United States and most of the commonwealth countries. It is used extensively as a second language and as an official language throughout the world
...... OK, so!?

Well... as Churchill said; ‘English is a language very easy to speak badly.’

Some people don't know how to use the words; There, Their and They're!
Well... most English speakers pronounce those words the same way; so its really hard for someone who don't speak English well to judge in which situation to use which word/spelling.

So...
Their is no one home.... Wrong!
My Manager wants to know if there busy... Wrong again!
The dogs are happily chewing on they're bones... no no no! WRONG!!!

I can't believe they're leaving their children there alone! Voila! That's Right

True... English is the most spoken language in our planet! But let me tell you the truth, English can be a crazy language!

You see;
1. There isn't egg in eggplant!
2. No butter in buttermilk!!
3. Do you see any grape in a grapefruit???
4. Neither pine nor apple in a pineapple!!!!

Even better.....
1. English muffins weren't invented in England
2. French fries weren't invented in France
3. Danish pastries weren't invented in Denmark
4. A guinea pig is neither a pig nor from Guinea

(Shudder)

Can you see a lipstick as in a lip that sticks?
or a foot that prints to give footprints???

If tooth plural is teeth, what is the plural of booth? Shouldn't it bee beeth? and the same goes for.....1 goose= 2 geese, then 1 moose = 2 meese?

And why is it people lately are referring to fish in the plural sense as fishes?
The word is still FISH!! Then we should all change deer to deers, which I've actually heard.
(the list goes on and on; fruits, homeworks, emails....etc)

And then there's the disappearance of the irregular past, e.g. swimmed, dived, dealed, etc instead of swam, dove, dealt. Sometimes, I just want to cry out loud!

I don't get how a slim chance and a fat chance mean the same thing LOL!

I mean come on tell me.... Which witch is the good witch?!!!

(Sigh!)

So what's the strangest word you heard/read today?

Mine is Discombobulate! I never used it in my life!

Oh well.. I hope you enjoyed my post today.

Makeover

Summer is here.. so give yourself a makeover from head to toe :-)

First learn to love your skin and body... love it and take care of it. If you don't have skin routine START ONE NOW! Just go out and spend some good money on good brand for skincare product and start a routine of having to take care of your skin on daily basis.Ladies! You usually don't mind spending lots of money on shoes, bags, and clothes... so why not on YOUR SKIN!!??! Wear facial masks and apply lotion when needed and after every wash.... this is very important!

Also buy yourself a sun block... Remember, its summer time!

Love yourself.. and love to be healthy! Be at a weight you are comfortable with. Join a gym and work it out... if you cannot afford it then do at least 20 sit-ups in the morning and at night. Go running.. this is totally free!

Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and sleep at least 8 hours at night :-) Add fruit and vegetables to your daily diet.

After this step, go shop for new summer clothes... OR put things you already have together in new ways.. . mix-and-match.

When this is done, look at your hair and think of what you want to do with it? Straighten it one day, and curl it the other.. have it in a ponytail sometimes... do that and keep on changing the look.... basically start experimenting what you can do with your hair heehee.
Take good care of your nails.. its summer time! You are swimming a lot, the weather is not helping, and the dryness is doing a number on you.

Put on makeup lightly in the day and a bit more at night. Let your face breath.. sometimes you go minimal and all you need is lip-gloss, eye shadow, and mascara..Spend some money on having a good massage too... its so relaxing!

Remember, when you are healthy on the inside, you will glow on the outside! So stand up straight, tuck in your tummy, and don't forget to wear your white bright smile all day long :-D

'Tis the Season!

Traveling season is around the corner... Sadly, the airline companies don't care that much about you! I mean they pack as many people as they can, from different age groups and different backgrounds... This can compromise your comfort when in airplane!

Here some useful information that may come in handy when traveling:

1. Do a list of the things you cannot travel without (deodorant, toothpaste/brush, underwear, socks.. etc) a head of time and leave it in your suitcase! This is what I usually do :-)
I cross check the list of the must have items when packing.

2. Reserve a good seat.. Most airlines allow you to reserve a seat online.. now think of your priorities, because even within the same class fare, some seats can be superior to others. Think of what you want? Sleep? Leg room? Privacy? Also consider to move around when on board to stretch your leg between now and then. (Check seat exercises)

3. Pack along something to keep you entertained! I usually get a book, magazines, and sudoku puzzle. Keep in mind that you want to travel light (at least I do).. so pack as less as you can in your carry-on bag... but also try and bring extra clothes for longer flights, they can get quite cold at some points.

4. I also recommend that you get some chewing gum to relieve pressure (when you want to relieve pressure you can also hold your nose and blow), water mist, lip palm, eye shades, ear plugs, band-aid, decongestant, wet napkins, and eye drops (just in case)... Also when on board drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration! Did you know that the dry air in an airplane is much drier than the desert?

5. Remember to read the new sets of rules and regulations. Some things may be taken away from you... such as liquids and sharp instruments!

6. If you have motion/air sickness, get something with ginger.. ginger cookies, snaps, biscuits.. etc.. or (this may sound weird) smell a newspaper! This can help calm your stomach.

Bon Voyage

Kuwait

Dr. Alrabaa taught me English Literature and Anthropology in college. He is awesome, I loved his way of teaching and challenging students. I got A and A- respectively in his classes... but I don't agree with so many points given out in this article! As a matter of fact I think it's a bit of everything; anger, experience, sterotype, and truth!!!

I do go out alone sometimes to a quite place to read a book!

I love our maid, cook, and driver.. they are awesome people and are here to earn a living!! I sometimes go and fix my own meal and tidy up my bed in the morning!

I do work full time, 7:30am-3:30pm without slacking!

I hate to see people throw litter out of their car, and to your surprise many of them are NOT Kuwaitis!!

I do LOVE Kuwait and I am a proud Kuwaiti too :-)

But this is freedom of speech I guess!

Daily Column
Thinking like a Kuwaiti
Published Date: February 21, 2007
By Dr Sami Alrabaa

Mohammed Al-Saleh writes in his column in Al-Qabas, Feb 19 the following, implying/referring to Kuwaitis in general:

Work is something sacred. Do not touch it.
Postpone your work until the day after tomorrow if you can't postpone it until tomorrow.
Do as little as you can and make the others do the job for you.
If you feel like working, take some rest until that wish evaporates.
Work is healthy. Therefore leave it to the ill.
I would add, also implying/referring to Kuwaitis in general:

If you have Wasta, (if you are well connected), why bother with the law.
If you have Wasta, why bother to learn and exert yourself. You will get the job you want and the others (expats) will eventually do the job for you.
As a Kuwaiti skip work. Because you are a Kuwaiti you will never be fired.
Wear an Islamist mask and behind it do whatever you want. As an Islamist you must be pious.
Pretend you are a devout Muslim. Go to perform noon prayers. From there go home. If people ask where you are, we will say you are praying.
Make a list of excuses from "work". One day, your wife is ill, the other, it is your son Mohammed, the other Ali, etc.
If you are a high profile official, do what Islamists tell you. They would love you and leave you to do what you want.
Make debts, borrow a lot of money and buy whatever you want. One day, these debts will be wiped out.
Carry on asking what Kuwait can do for you, but never what you can do for Kuwait. Do not forget to sing: I love Kuwait.
Throw your litter out of your car. Litter all over. Public places are no-man's land. Why do we have Bangladeshis? They would be jobless without your litter.
Leave all your bulbs and A/C on all the time, waste as much water as you can. Only the dumb pay their electricity and water bills.
Do not read. Do not inform yourself. The more you know, the more depressed you get. The more you learn about other societies, the more you are convinced, you live in a mad house.
Wrong are always the others. Although you are as corrupt as the others, as lazy as the others, blame it on the others. You are perfect, but not the others.
Committees made out of Kuwaitis spawn only other committees. They are not built to propose solutions.
In public, condemn Western "decadence", but in private enjoy its products. Praise local traditions, no matter what anachronistic they are.
If you employ an expat, exploit him/her as much as you can. They should be thankful to you that they earn a couple of dinars. Back home they would die of hunger.
When international human rights organisations blast Kuwaitis for ill-treating expats, refer them to the humane labour laws in Kuwait.
Do not learn from expat colleagues. Punctuality and hard work do not pay off in Kuwait. Expats are there to do the job and not to learn from.
Never teach your kids "Do it yourself". Otherwise, they run the risk of learning independence, discipline, and creativity. It is cheaper to get all these things for KD 30. It is not worth it.
Have you ever seen a Kuwaiti reading a book in a public place like, parks, cafes, or libraries? What kind of books do Kuwaitis buy? Books about deciphering dreams and cooking.
If Kuwaiti women were free, really free and not shackled to the rules of tradition, not to say suppressed by men, they would expose men and prove that they are simply paper tigers. Men know this. Therefore they subordinate women to their will, arbitrarily.
Do you know why Kuwaiti men, for that matter most Arab men, walk at least two to three steps ahead of their wives? They want to shield them from the lusty eyes of male strangers.
Men-women relationships are abnormal in Kuwaiti society. This abnormality is justified by anachronistic norms and pseudo-Islamic rules. Roman women envied their Muslim counterparts for being allowed to fight and conduct business transactions. Nowadays, most Kuwaiti and Arab women need the blessing of their men for every movement they do. Now, expats are addressed:

If you are an expat, just do what makes your Kuwaiti employer happy. Never disagree with your boss or Kuwaiti colleagues, even if they do not have the slightest clue. On the contrary, keep flattering them. Honesty does not pay off in Kuwait. Keep your advice and frustration in yourself. Lock them up.
If you are an expat teacher, do not be demanding. The more students complain about you, the shorter your employment chances will be in Kuwait.
Students must have enough time to play video games and watch TV.
At roundabouts and queues give way to Kuwaitis, regardless of traffic rules.
Do not rush Kuwaitis at government departments. They hate speeding at work. In some areas, the speed limit is zero. Besides, the poor Kuwaiti employees, they stay up late at night fulfilling their social duties.
Do not expect a "thank you" from a Kuwaiti. You are doing your duties.
Kuwaitis are not racist. Assigning demeaning jobs to Bangladeshis and Indians is simply a kind of division of labour.
Generally, a Kuwaiti man does not bring his wife to your mixed social gatherings not because he is misogynist. It is because she does not want to. She prefers to stay at home and wait for her husband.
Some Kuwaitis believe that their maids are robots. Indeed, some maids show no feelings, never complain, and speak like robots: Yes, no, ok, etc. That is why some Kuwaitis make their maids work for 24 hours.

Potentially habitable planet found

From Associated Press

By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer

For the first time astronomers have discovered a planet outside our solar system that is potentially habitable, with Earth-like temperatures, a find researchers described Tuesday as a big step in the search for "life in the universe."

The planet is just the right size, might have water in liquid form, and in galactic terms is relatively nearby at 120 trillion miles away. But the star it closely orbits, known as a "red dwarf," is much smaller, dimmer and cooler than our sun.

There's still a lot that is unknown about the new planet, which could be deemed inhospitable to life once more is known about it. And it's worth noting that scientists' requirements for habitability count Mars in that category: a size relatively similar to Earth's with temperatures that would permit liquid water. However, this is the first outside our solar system that meets those standards.

My Comments:

This is an exciting find! Though, I don't think because this planet have all requirements/parameters to support life on it (where conditions are favorable for the creation of life such as water, temperature, atmosphere) means it actually does have life (or maybe did have life)! Wasn't Mars also one of those planets, "Earthlike" planets, that fulfilled all the requirements and no life was founded there YET!? This is all, of course, assuming that extra terrestrial life has the exact same requirements as terrestrial life!!

Plus.. at over 100 trillion light-years away from us, and with our current forms of transportation and technologies, I don't see that we can reach the new planet anytime soon in a human lifetime!

I read some more fact about it like; this new planet doesn't revolve around itself and takes about 13 days to revolve around its Sun, Gliese 581. Speaking of which... this sun is a red star, and is less energetic than our sun, but it is believed that it is able to sustain some sort of energy enough for life to occur on its planets!

Scientist think it would take as much as 20 years from now to know for sure if there is life on it!

Should something happen to earth in the future, far far future, then this planet might come in handy then :-P

Kuwait, my country, may you be safe and glorious!
May you always enjoy good fortune!

You are the cradle of my ancestors,
Who put down its memory.
With everlasting symmetry, showing all eternity,
Those Arabs were heavenly,

Blessed be my Country a homeland for harmony,
Warded by true sentry giving their soils aptly,
Building high its history, Kuwait,

My country, we're for you my Country,
Led by faith and loyalty,
With its Amir equally,
Fencing us all fairly, with warm love and verity,

Kuwait, my country,
May you be safe and glorious.
May you always enjoy good fortune!

Is it just me or is it Windex?!

It not that I am practicing road skills or anything... But I almost hit a bird when I was driving to work today! I am not crazy, but sometimes I think birds target me in the morning when I drive.. I am talking crazy birds who want to commit suicide! I swear!!! They fly right in front of me when I am driving, when I can't slow down in time, or slam my brakes!

It could be the season when olives ripen, and that some birds steal and eat them and get "drunk" which messes up their senses and tiny brains, often causing them to fly into windows in the morning when they are hung-over!

The first incident happend late last year when I was driving to work and a stupid pigeon decided to land right in front of my wheels when I was driving! All I saw in my side mirrors were feathers.. lots and lots of feathers! I was like this is a bad start for my day!

The second incident occured not long after the first one.. It was January! I was also driving to work (I think that is the peak time for pigeons' stupidity!) and another stupid pigeon flew straight to my window! I swear I almost had a car accident when it slammed on my window!

Few days later that month another very similar incident happen, only I was looking at the bird this time flying straight to me, with the pavement on my left and a car on my right.. it was unavoidable one! I was looking at it flying fast and I tried to slow down but that didn't work!
BAM! in the window and then on the passenger's window! I was agitated and disturbed at how long this bird-craze will go on!

At that day I was suppose to go to the mall with one of my colleagues, and when she wanted to get in the car she saw feathers on the window and was like: "WHAT IS THIS!!"

So I told her about it... and the "birds-flying-to-me" phase ended right there... TILL THIS MORNING! When I almost run-over a bird!

I know one thing! I will try to avoid it as much as I can, but not to the point where I could injure myself! I mean come on, birds run into glass doors/windows for the same reason people do! But what the hey! Its NOT my problem! I don't care if they're drunk, stupid, or in mating season! I will just drive to work everyday and live my day! Whether I kill a bird on the way or not!!!

Viva La France

So, Jacques Chirac will say "au revoir" after 12 years as head of state! I am guessing there will be erratic outcomes this year!

Nicolas Sarkozy (right) and Ségolène Royal (left) are the two main candidates for the next elections.

Sarkozy! A reformist conservative and Pro-American (Another Tony Blaire)... He is the head of the right-of-the center party, the French conservatives (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire).

Royal, on the other hand... a simple feminist socialist figure, will only shake Bush's hand after telling hime what she thought of his policies... so her attitude towards the US will be "cool but friendly" She will, if she wins, bring a new France to live with the first female president.

Royal had a strong start. However when she started informing people of her thoughts and suggestions on foreign policies and affairs, they became concerned where will all that take France when speaking on the international level.

As for Sarkozy, when he officially announced his aspirations he then was behind her, but when people started to become concerned of Royal's thoughts and suggestions, Sarkozy jumped into the front runner seat.

Is Royal embedded so deep in the elite of the French socialist party?!?!

The French are still lost, with 40% undecided yet! As I said in the beginning.. erratic outcomes may surface and I wouldn't leave Bayrou outside this fight...

Warbah

I was browsing the net and came upon this picture of Warbah Island! It's the first time I see a picture of that island. Warbah Island is located in the mouth of Euphrates River.
Roughly speaking, the island is 100 meters east of Kuwait mainland and one kilometers south of Iraq. It is about five kilometers wide and 15 kilometers long.
As you can tell from the picture... the island is basically a large mud flat! There are clearly no permenant inhabitants, but the government is maintaining a coast-guard post called M-1.

Virginia Tech massacre

This is really sad!!! Since Coloumbine.. making some sort of "chain of tragedies" grow bigger with time! (Images above from AFP and CNN)

I have read so many things on the net/newspapers.. and summarized it here on the blog...

This must be the cruelest and deadliest civilan shooting in the history of USA!

The shooting started somehere around 7:15AM in the dorms followed by another one in a class room a couple of hours later, but it is not yet confirmed that the two shootings are related!!

The news at the moment is so mixed-up! On one hand, the Daily Mail, a British Tabloid, reported that the dorm shooter have quarreled in the dorms with his girlfriend who has been seeing another man! On the other hand, the Washington Post reported that the shooter was not the boyfriend, but rather someone else!!! When the advisor was called to sort out the dispute, the killer got out his gon and shot both; the girlfriend and the advisor.

It is said that his friends detained because everyone can recognize them as the shooter's friends!

Later in the day, the shooter (if its the same guy) went in rampage and vent his rage by shooting about some 20-30 people attending a German class, including the teacher. It is said that the shooter peeked in a couple of times before he started to shoot.. like he was looking for someone. Allegedly, the shooter then shot himself in the head and dropped dead! Why! Is killing all those innocent people will bring his love back! Is he blaming the whole world for his misfortune in life and love or what!!

I am just wondering what the shooter did in the two hours he had in between shootings!

The following summary is just a copy/paste from the net:

Monday, April 16
7:15 a.m.: A 911 emergency call to Virginia Tech Police reports a shooting at West Ambler Johnston Hall, leaving two people dead.
8:00 a.m.: Classes begin.
9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.(approx.): Shooter opens fire in classroom in Norris Hall, an engineering building.
9:26 a.m.: Emails go out to campus staff and faculty saying there has been a shooting on campus.
9:30 a.m.: Students in the engineering building Norris Hall call police to report more shots have been fired.
9:50 a.m.: A third email announcing: "A gunman is loose on campus. Stay in buildings until further notice. Stay away from all windows" is sent to all Virginia Tech email addresses. Loudspeakers broadcast a similar message.
10:52 a.m.: A fourth email warns of a multiple shooting with multiple victims in Norris Hall, saying the gunman has been arrested and that police are hunting for a possible second shooter. The entrances to the campus buildings are locked.
12:00 p.m.: At a press conference, authorities said there may have been more than 21 people killed and 28 injured.
2:30 p.m.: AP reports at least 31 killed, including gunman.
3:40 p.m.: Virginia Tech confirms 22 dead.
4:01 p.m.: President Bush speaks from the White House regarding the shooting.
4:40 p.m.: The school holds a press conference with updates on the day's events.
4:42 p.m.: Virginia Tech confirms 33 dead including the shooter.
7:30 p.m.: Third press conference.
7:30 p.m.: A final confirmation that there have been 31 deaths at Norris Hall, including the gunman.

Little Treats

I was invited to one of my dearest friends' baby shower.. and I wanted to get something so special and unique for the occasion.. then I remembered! I was browsing this site; http://littletreats-q8.com/ the day before and decided to give them a call and order some baby blue and white cupcakes. Let me tell you this, the service is AMAZING, you browse the site, check out the orders, flavors, size..etc.. pick up the phone, make your order... and they deliver it right to your doorsteps! How good is that.. so the cupcakes arrived and they were looking too good to be eaten heehee. My nephews went crazy over them, but they were for the baby shower that same evening.

So at my friend's house, everyone loved how the cupcakes looked... even better, the cupcakes that I ordered made an appearance on the website categorized under "orders" (http://littletreats-q8.com/orders/) under the name baby box... with FAHOODI name on'em... WTG Fahoodi!! Your cupcakes are famous now heehee ;-)

The taste is.... ohhhh-so-good! I want one NOW! heehee

Later... I had to order 32 cupcakes for one of my nephews birthday, they really wanted those cupcakes (and so did I heehee).. And you know what? That day, when they saw the cupcakes.. they ate all their lunch and did their homework really fast to be able to celebrate and eat because they are so good and irresistible and so yummy too!

My sister also ordered some with the Senegal flag for a presentation her students were going to give in school... we "accidentally" ordered a bit more than we needed so we had the chance to eat some at home before the presentation :-P LOL

I took some pictures and will try to post them on the blog... so much for eating healthy heehee... speaking of which, I ordered so many of them with Splenda icing to feel less guilty about all those calories ;-)

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may - Robert Herrick

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the Sun,
The higher he's a-getting;
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best, which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Time still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may go marry;
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
